Modular Camp Solutions for Project Sites

KUBO Project Planning Tool

Modular Workforce Camp Calculator

Estimate the preliminary accommodation capacity for a remote workforce camp based on workforce structure, room occupancy, shift pattern and planning allowance. The calculation provides an early estimate of beds, rooms and modular units before detailed camp layout development.

Project Inputs

Use current resident headcount. Shift selection affects shared-facility demand, not the number of beds.

A — Workforce
B — Accommodation Standard
C — Operations & Planning Allowance
Every resident still requires accommodation.

How the Workforce Camp Calculation Works

Beds, rooms and modular units describe different planning layers. Beds represent the accommodation capacity required for the planning population. Rooms depend on the occupancy standard selected for each workforce group. Estimated accommodation modules then convert those room counts using the initial assumption of two rooms per module for each group.

Why Shift Pattern Does Not Normally Reduce Bed Requirements

Even on two-shift or three-shift projects, personnel normally remain project residents. The default calculation therefore keeps one accommodation place for every resident. Shift pattern changes the estimated peak population using shared facilities such as dining, kitchens, changing areas, transport staging, recreation and sanitary buildings; it does not create a hot-bunking assumption.

From Workforce Numbers to a Modular Camp Layout

Headcount is the first planning input, not the finished layout. A detailed camp plan also needs to coordinate accommodation hierarchy, dining, sanitation, circulation, offices, clinic space, recreation, utilities, fire and emergency access, climate conditions, logistics and possible future expansion.

When Should You Ask KUBO for a Detailed Layout?

A useful layout brief normally includes workforce count, worker hierarchy, preferred room occupancy, project location, available site size, climate, project duration and the support facilities required. KUBO can then review the capacity estimate against module dimensions, room standards, project specifications and the proposed site arrangement.

Workforce Camp Planning FAQ

Does a two-shift project need fewer accommodation beds?

Not under the default planning method. Each project resident still needs accommodation capacity. Two-shift operation only reduces the preliminary peak population used to discuss shared facilities. A hot-bunking arrangement would require a separate, explicitly approved operating model.

How should senior staff and workers be separated in camp planning?

Separate occupancy standards can be applied to senior, supervisory and worker groups. The final zoning should then consider privacy, walking routes, management access, dining arrangements, sanitary facilities, security and the client's accommodation policy.

How much spare accommodation capacity should a project camp include?

The suitable allowance depends on mobilisation uncertainty, turnover, visitors, isolation needs, phased workforce changes and expansion plans. This tool provides 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and a custom 0–50% option so the assumption remains visible.

Can KUBO calculate dining, kitchen and sanitary buildings as part of the camp?

KUBO can review those facilities as part of a wider camp brief. Their final quantities require information such as meal periods, service model, local sanitary rules, workforce mix, shift peaks, utility conditions and client standards; this first calculator therefore presents a checklist rather than unsupported quantities.

How is the number of modular units determined from the room requirement?

Room counts are rounded up by workforce group. The first version then uses an editable planning assumption of two rooms per accommodation module for every group. This is not a confirmed KUBO engineering standard and must be calibrated against the selected floor plan and module dimensions.

Can the calculator be used for mining and EPC project camps?

Yes, it can support early capacity discussions for mining, energy, infrastructure, construction and EPC projects. The result remains preliminary because project location, climate, logistics, specifications and operating requirements can change the final configuration.

What information is required before KUBO prepares a detailed camp layout?

Provide workforce numbers and hierarchy, room occupancy, project location, available site size, climate, duration, utility basis, required supporting facilities, applicable specifications and known delivery or construction constraints.

Can the camp be expanded later if workforce numbers increase?

Expansion can be considered during planning, but it depends on the selected building system, site circulation, utility capacity, fire access, structural interfaces, foundations and logistics. Reserve future zones and connection points before the initial layout is frozen.
